The first step in making a change is deciding it is time to reach out. In considering your options, allow me to introduce myself. My name is Olivia, I am a student counsellor in training, based in Barrie. I am currently working on my Masters of Arts in Counselling Psychology at Yorkville University. I believe everyone is worthy, resilient, and deserves an understanding, empathetic, and supportive therapeutic space.

My counselling approach is personalized, strengths-based, non-judgemental, and holistic. I intend to create a compassionate and safe space for you to explore your thoughts, feelings, and experiences. In this journey together, we can engage in self-exploration, develop effective coping strategies, build on strengths, and work towards creating a meaningful life. My practice is culturally responsive and prioritizes your needs, goals, and wellbeing.

I support students, young adults, and adults who are seeking treatment for anxiety, depression, obsessive-compulsive disorder, life transitions, self-awareness, self-esteem, and emotional regulation. I utilize cognitive-behavioural therapy (CBT), psychodynamic, acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), and mindfulness-based approaches. Together, we can find new strengths and expand on pre-existing skills to adapt to challenging situations, reduce symptoms, and improve overall functioning.

In my own mental wellness journey, counselling has provided me a safe space to process my thoughts and feelings, as well as learn more about myself. As a counsellor, I intend to create a similar space for my clients to work towards healing and improve wellbeing. Beginning therapy can be an intimidating process. I would be honoured to help guide you through this journey and support you to work towards your goals.

Trained in many areas of psychotherapy, for a variety of reasons, including anxiety, depression, stress, couple’s issues, trauma, self-esteem, and addictions, my goal is to treat you as the whole person, where we, as a team, decide what goals are best for you in each moment. We are complex beings, where biology, psychology, and support systems, all play an important and integral role in our thoughts, feelings, and behaviours.

Furthermore, when you are ready, there may be some past events we can unpack and help you begin to heal from. That brings me to our alliance. I want you to be safe, and we therefore will go at your pace, so that you can feel comfortable to disclose what you want to, when you are ready, at your own stages in our process.

A little bit about me is that I am a father of two, and have been married for over ten years. I went through some difficult times in my own life, sought therapy, and it helped me get on a better path. I was so inspired by the field, that I left teaching to pursue this career. It is my hope that I will be able to assist you in your journey, as I was helped on mine.

Hi, I’m Owen, a Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying) currently completing my Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology at Yorkville University. If you’re feeling stuck, overwhelmed, or weighed down by anxiety, depression, grief, or life’s challenges, you don’t have to face it alone. I offer a safe, supportive space where we can explore your experiences together and move toward healing and growth at a pace that feels right for you.

I work with adolescents, adults, and seniors, with a particular focus on men’s issues, grief and loss, trauma, anxiety and depression, and supporting neurodiverse individuals. You may be carrying the weight of past trauma, navigating the pain of loss, struggling with low mood or worry, or managing the unique challenges of being neurodiverse in a world that doesn’t always understand. Whatever you are going through, I strive to meet you with compassion, understanding, and a collaborative spirit.

My approach is holistic and client-centred, recognizing the importance of the body–mind connection in overall well-being. I draw on evidence-based therapies such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT), and Humanistic approaches, all within a trauma-informed lens. My professional experience as a Behaviour Therapist gave me a strong foundation in supporting neurodiverse individuals, crisis intervention, and emotional development, skills that continue to shape my practice today.

My passion for this work is deeply personal, rooted in growing up with parents who dedicated their lives to social services and healthcare. Their example instilled in me the value of compassion, resilience, and community care, which I now carry into my own therapeutic work. Together, we can build coping strategies, strengthen resilience, and uncover new ways forward.

Starting therapy doesn’t mean you have to have everything figured out. It simply means you’re open to support. I’m here to listen, guide, and work alongside you as you move toward healing and growth. The process typically starts with an initial consultation where we can discuss your needs and goals, and from there, we can decide on a plan that works best for you.

Hi, I’m Saara Kanji, a Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying), currently completing my Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology. I believe that healing begins with feeling truly seen and understood. My goal as a counsellor is to create a warm and supportive space where you feel safe, less alone, and empowered to navigate life’s challenges. Whether you are struggling with anxiety, self-esteem, or a deep sense of disconnection, I am here to help you make sense of your experiences, understand your emotions, and embrace who you are with pride.

My journey into counselling stems from a lifelong passion for understanding people and fostering meaningful connections. As a South Asian/East African Muslim woman and the daughter of immigrants, I understand the complexities of navigating cultural identity, family expectations, and belonging. This perspective shapes my work, particularly in supporting women, South Asian women, Muslim women, and immigrants who may be facing challenges related to self-worth, relationships, intergenerational struggles, and cultural or religious identity.

In therapy, I take an integrative approach, drawing from Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Adlerian Therapy, Internal Family Systems (IFS), and Narrative Therapy. I also have a deep interest in generational transference—the ways in which family patterns, beliefs, and past experiences impact our present. If desired, I can incorporate a spiritual or Islamic perspective into our sessions, ensuring that therapy aligns with your values and beliefs. My style is compassionate and collaborative, ensuring that therapy is tailored to your unique needs and goals.

Outside of counselling, I love spending time in bookstores, immersing myself in different cultures, and finding creative ways to unwind. Whether it’s through reading, exploring new places, or engaging in reflective practices, I believe in the importance of self-care and personal growth—values that I bring into my work with clients.

No matter where you are in your journey, you do not have to go through it alone. I invite you to reach out, whether you have questions or are ready to begin therapy. I look forward to walking alongside you, helping you build the tools and confidence to navigate life with greater clarity, strength, and self-acceptance.

“The wound is the place where the light enters you.” — Rumi

My approach is centered entirely around you. You’re at the heart of the work we do together. I truly believe in the strength and wisdom you already carry within, and my role is to support you in discovering and embracing that inner light.

Life doesn’t always unfold the way we expect—it can bring unexpected twists that leave us feeling lost, stuck, or overwhelmed. Whether you’re trying to understand why life feels off course, looking to break free from patterns that no longer serve you, or simply seeking more peace, joy, and connection in your relationships, I’m here to walk alongside you with compassion, presence, and care.

Challenging times, as painful as they can be, often point us toward areas in need of healing. And healing is a deeply personal journey—one that unfolds in its own time and way. In our sessions, you’ll have a safe, judgment-free space to explore your thoughts and emotions. We’ll move at a pace that feels comfortable for you. There’s no pressure—just steady, supportive progress. My intention is to help you reconnect with who you truly are and rediscover your sense of balance and well-being. Together, we’ll gently explore the patterns that may be holding you back, and I’ll be there to support you in cultivating self-kindness, resilience, and change.

Therapy is a collaborative process, one where you are always seen, heard, and valued. Every step we take together is rooted in the belief that you deserve healing, love, and a fulfilling life. If you feel ready to take this step, I’d be honoured to walk with you—offering warmth, encouragement, and support as you move toward a more empowered and authentic version of yourself.

Now, let’s shift the focus to you—your story, your needs, and what you’re hoping for.

Background: I earned my Honours Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from York University in 2020. In April 2024, I completed my Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology (MACP) at Yorkville University, and I am currently a Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying) with the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario (CRPO).

I am fluent in Farsi and have received specialized training and certifications in areas such as suicide intervention, 2SLGBTQ+ support, art therapy, anger management, and conflict resolution. My practicum was completed at the Canadian Centre for Men and Families (CCMF), where I gained valuable experience supporting men’s mental health. I worked with clients facing trauma, relationship challenges, and gender-specific concerns. The holistic approach at CCMF, which takes into account men’s unique experiences, has deeply influenced my clinical practice and helped me develop a strong understanding of the particular barriers men often face when seeking mental health support.

I began my career working in the school system, which later led me into the mental health field as an intake counsellor. These early experiences provided me with essential tools that now support my role as a Psychotherapist, allowing me to create a compassionate and supportive environment for clients of all ages as they navigate life’s challenges.

These foundational roles helped me develop strong skills in active listening, crisis intervention, and understanding the diverse needs of children, teens, and adults. While having better knowledge for how early life experiences, family dynamics, and environmental factors influence emotional well-being. This insight now guides my therapeutic approach, where I strive to meet each client exactly where they are, fostering a safe space for reflection, healing, and personal growth.

I am dedicated to helping children, teens, and adults manage life’s challenges with compassion, clarity, and care. I believe in the power of a safe, supportive therapeutic relationship to foster meaningful healing and transformation.

Together, we will work to better understand and manage emotions, behaviours, and life stressors in a way that feels authentic to you.

My clinical focus includes supporting individuals struggling with anxiety, depression, stress, emotional regulation difficulties, relationship concerns, and life transitions. I have a particular interest in working with clients who are navigating self-esteem issues, perfectionism, identity exploration, and the lasting impact of early attachment and family dynamics.

I am also deeply passionate about helping individuals process trauma and build resilience, integrating a trauma-informed lens into my practice.

While I specialize in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) for general concerns, anxiety, and depression, I also incorporate a variety of evidence-based approaches tailored to each client’s unique needs. These include Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), trauma-informed care, and mindfulness-based strategies. Additionally, I draw upon strengths-based and person-centered frameworks to ensure therapy remains collaborative, empowering, and aligned with your personal goals.

My therapeutic style is warm, compassionate, and non-judgmental. I am committed to creating a safe and nurturing space where you feel comfortable exploring your thoughts, emotions, and life challenges, while learning to challenge limiting beliefs and develop coping strategies that align with your values.

I provide counselling services in both English and Romanian, and I am currently seeing clients at our welcoming Newmarket and Barrie office locations.
